Who we are on a global level, Our Lady of Good Hope (OLGH) Council 4587 efforts, and where OLGH Council 4587 hopes to go in the future.

The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by Father Michael McGivney, with a mission of charity, as a mutual benefit society for working-class and immigrant Catholics in the United States. It has grown to support refugee relief, Catholic education, local parishes and dioceses, and global Catholic social and political causes.  We have over 2,000,000 Catholic men in 16,000 Councils worldwide serving our parishes and priests.  A sampling of our noteworthy efforts include:

• Providing disaster relief for victims of hurricanes, earthquakes, etc;

• Providing humanitarian assistance, in Iraq, Syria and the surrounding region through the Christian Relief Fund;

• Contributing over $22,000,000 through the Ukraine Solidarity Fund and work with our councils in Poland and Ukraine, the Latin and Greek Catholic Churches, and partner organizations to provide shelter, food, medical supplies, clothing, religious supplies, and other humanitarian needs;

• Providing ultrasound equipment through the Culture of Life Fund.  More than 1,500 ultrasound machines have been funded since 2009;

• Providing financial security through Knights of Columbus insurance products to include life, long term care, disability and annuities; and,

• Donating over $200 million per year and over 100 million hours of effort to charitable causes.​

OLGH Council Activities and Charities

The Knights of Columbus OLGH Council #4587 was formed in 1958 with 56 charter members.  Today, we have 96 members.  Council # 4587 activities have included the following:

• Sponsoring the Mother’s Day Right to Life rose sale and raising money for children with disabilities, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Miamisburg Helping Hands Food Pantry and our Seminarians;

• Maintaining the cemetery grounds for over 25 years, building a new deck for the rectory and painting the garage doors;

• Sponsoring Sunday coffee and donuts, the soup and sandwich supper, chili dinners, the wine/cheese social and the boy scout pancake breakfast;

• Supporting parish picnics by providing grill cooks and labor for set up, tear down and clean up;

• Supporting our parish through efforts of many Knights serving as ushers, lectors, eucharistic ministers, mass coordinators and members of the pastoral advisory council and finance committee;

• Donating over $20,000 in our 2023/2024 Fraternal Year to charitable organizations such as Right to Life, Brigid’s Path, Elizabeth New Life Center, Daybreak and St Vincent de Paul Society;

• Providing over $35,000 of financial support to our parish over the past 6 years.

Where We Hope To Take Your Local Council In The Future

Our Lady of Good Hope Knights of Columbus Council #4587 currently has 96  members.  As noted in Part 2 of the series, we sponsor or support numerous activities during the year.  But, WE WANT TO DO MORE!  To do more, we need more members.  To do more, we need more active members. 

We have set the following goals:

• Sponsor activities that attract a wider range of members;

• Sponsor activities that foster fellowship;

• Sponsor events that raise funds to enable your council to contribute more to worthy charitable organizations;

• Establish a more aggressive Community Outreach Program to the benefit of OLGH parishioners and the local community;

• Sponsor “Faith Based” and “Family Based” activities;

• Be a more integral part of the fabric of the parish; and,

• Increase support provided to the parish and our priests.
